Stream Stomp 2010

WHAT A SUCCESS!

“Over 80 volunteers took part in the first ever Clinton County Stream Stomp event on Saturday morning. Volunteers cleaned up garbage and debris along the Mississippi River in Clinton and along Silver Creek in Westbrook Park in DeWitt.

The Clinton clean up effort included 70 hard-working individuals working from the North (IA 136) Bridge to the South (U.S. 30) Bridge. In the four hour clean up effort these people collected 5,920 lbs of improperly disposed litter, debris, and other waste and 12 illegally discarded tires. The nearly three tons of waste included hundreds of cigarette butts, several large pieces of Styrofoam, more than 10 pairs of underclothing, four sets of cable or wire, three barrels, two fence posts, a VCR, a barge rope, parts for a tent, parts for a motor, and much more. Around 150 lbs of recyclable materials were also collected from the site.

17 people carried out the four hour clean up in along Silver Creek in DeWitt’s Westbrook Park. The DeWitt cleanup yielded 540 lbs of improperly disposed of garbage and four illegally disposed of tires (including two semi tires and a small tractor tire). The trash included litter a 55-gallon drum.
